Microsoft Windows 11 is scheduled to be released later this year, and the firm has been busy rolling out testing version updates via its Insider Preview programme, which allows customers to test out new software improvements before they are released. Microsoft introduced Windows 11 on June 24, and since then, many people have been testing the forthcoming upgrade using Insider Preview releases. However, Microsoft has now warned some of these testers that the Windows 11 versions they may receive in the future may be less stable.

According to HTNovo, the Microsoft has written customers who have signed up to get early releases of the operating system via the Windows Insider Preview to notify them that it will begin flying “early development builds” which will be received by users on the Dev channel. Microsoft allows customers to test software in three rings: Dev, Beta, and Release Preview, with Dev builds being the most “cutting edge” and unstable.

“These builds may be less stable and won’t align with the version of Windows 11 expected to be available to the general public later this year,”  the company reportedly stated, adding that the arrival of the Windows 11 Insider builds on the Beta channel was the  “perfect time to reevaluate what flighting channel is right” for users. Remaining on the Dev channel implies users may encounter further bugs and stability concerns as Microsoft begins to distribute more “early” development releases to consumers.

For the ordinary user who has been interested enough to try Windows 11 on the Insider Preview builds, Microsoft’s warning implies moving to the Beta channel under the Insider Preview settings would be good idea. This implies that while these customers will receive updates before other Windows users, they will not be able to view the most recent improvements to the operating system.

However, customers who have installed the Windows 11 preview release on their PCs and laptops may wish to move to the Beta channel to avoid any stability concerns in the forthcoming Windows 11 testing builds.
