Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is the sequel to Ubisoft’s Mario and Rabbids crossover turn-based strategy game for the Nintendo Switch. On Saturday, Ubisoft released a new cinematic teaser as well as a sneak peak at some gameplay, as well as a release date of sometime in 2022. The formal announcement at Ubisoft Forward came hours after a leak on Nintendo’s own online shop.
Kingdom Battle, the first Mario + Rabbids video game, was initially presented by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto at Ubisoft’s press presentation at E3 2017. Despite the oddity of its IP mashup, Kingdom Battle was one of the greatest early Switch games, combining Mario and Rabbids characters with great yet approachable X-COM-style tactical gameplay. In our review, we termed it “a startlingly good Nintendo Switch strategy game.”
It’s hardly strange that a well-received game would get a sequel a few years later, but Nintendo made an atypical error here. It’s hardly strange that a well-received game would get a sequel a few years later, but Nintendo made an atypical error here.
