According to retail and advertising sources familiar with Shopify’s plans, the e-commerce software company that helps merchants sell their products online will soon introduce a tool called Shopify Audiences.
As per speculations, Shopify will let advertisers use its data to target ads on Facebook and Google. Dennis Hegstad, the CEO of a startup called LiveRecover, tweeted a screenshot of what appeared to be Shopify Audiences.
The image targets marketers on a data exchange network, where advertisers choose products they want to promote using insights gleaned from Shopify’s technology’s 1.7 million customers.
Shopify then creates look-alike audiences using aggregated and anonymized data from its merchants to target people on Facebook and Google who may be interested in those products, according to retail and advertising sources familiar with Shopify’s plans.
